BATAVIA
The BATAVIA was originally built in 1628 in Amsterdam by order of the VOC, the Dutch United East India Company.
On the maiden voyage, she sailed further than the Wasa would have. However, under the command of Francisco Pelsaert, she was shipwrecked on her maiden voyage on a reef off Western Australian coast, and was made famous by the subsequent mutiny and massacre that took place among the survivors.
A twentieth-century replica of the ship is also called the Batavia and can be visited in Lelystad, Netherlands.
